Tsigi

A closed box of rock and floating islands

The world spans 1,627 km from edge to edge within a closed box built by an agent. Solid rock fills the space between 823 land masses that float like islands.

Most people never see the gate because it sits deep in a quarry where miners read old tracks to find tunnels before collapse.

Extent
1,627 kmacross a finite space
Fill
Solid rockwith hollows for life
Islands
823 land masseseach a day or more apart
Gate
Sector 5 on the Dimensional Stationdoor large enough for cargo ships

01

The Shape

The ground retains prints of every tread made before cities rose.

from The Stone Account Book, by Tsachu

The space is filled with solid rock. Life keeps to the hollows and tunnels in it. Old tracks can be read for years.

Distance
Each floating island stays at least a day away from its nearest neighbour.
Edge
A closed space with a measurable edge. Someone built it.
02

How It Works

Bronze tools shape the mineral shells that become currency after death.

from Gate Watch Log, by Budoso

Mining operations feed the economy by turning mineral shells into currency after death. Stone is currency as well as trade goods. Earthquakes shake the rock often, so building laws enforce strict safety rules.

Currency
Tin bars weigh more than gold bars for trade across the rock.
Tools
Bronze tools shape those shells while tin bars trade for more value than gold.
03

The Gate

The D-Station drone greets arrivals with a warning against violence. Access passes through kiosks that issue credits without minting metal coins. A shard from Nexus lets anyone return home after one trip there.

Cost
A person pays ten credits for passage through the Dimensional Station.
Hull
Hulls cost a thousand credits to enter Nexus from this world.
Cargo
Cargo goes free.
Warning
There is no violence in the Dimensional Station. Violent offenders will be removed.
04

Who Holds It

The Nuyegi read old footprints to find tunnels before they collapse. Someone is trying to buy control of the gate outright. Bars of tin weigh more than bars of gold here. Someone wants to buy the door to leave the rock.

Miners
Nuyegi miners control the gate by reading tracks in the quarry floor.
Traders
Stone traders hold the land because they mine the currency from the rock.
Buyer
A buyer tries to control the gate.
05

Statutes

Quarry sites guard the tracks left by everything that walked on them before cities rose. Building laws remain strict because earthquakes shake the floating islands often.

Exile
The rightful ruler lives in exile off-world.
