NAYONO

A BOUNDED SPACE WITH A THICK CLOUD FLOOR

The land spans 3,021 km across a bounded edge. Deep basins cut by knife ridges form separate countries in a chain.

Cloud floors exist where one can stand or fall depending on the spot. A hollow shell surrounds the world with life living on the inner face.

The Land

The eldest women of each line decide together and their word is final on the land.

from The Ridge Account Book, by Wukwei

The world holds a hollow shell; life lives on the inner face, looking up at the far side. The space is filled with cloud thick enough to stand on in places and fall through in others.

Danger
Earthquakes happen frequently enough to make building laws strict rules. Visitors must pay ten credits a head to step inside the museum housing the gate.
02

The Gate

There is no violence in the Dimensional Station. Violent offenders will be removed.

from The Gate Log, by Yechei

The world's gate opens on Dimensional Station sector 4. Nayono treats its gate as a museum piece for all arrivals.

Costs
Passage costs ten credits a head and a thousand a hull. Cargo goes free through any size mouth the ship can fly into.
Location
Time runs at the same rate as at the Dimensional Station.
Status
The gate stands in a museum of everything that has come through it. Cheye is the main basin where the museum housing the D-Station gate stands.

Machines and Time

Everyone on the world dreams the same dream on one night each year.

from Dream Watch, by Yechei

Imported machines operate for 17 days before failing and then sit idle for as many days. Salvage from ruins funds an economy; a single find supports a family for generations.

Cycle
Imported machines run on a cycle, working for 17 days and failing for as many.
Economy
Salvage from ruins is the economy. A good find can make a family for generations.
Dreams
What ends the shared dream that wakes once each year?
04

Governance

Salvage hunters control the resource by finding what lies in the ruined basins.

Safety
Earthquakes are frequent and building laws are the strictest laws. People feel it in their ears and joints.
Silence
Sound dies inside the hollow shell until it fades away without reaching those far below. This quiet lets a messenger speak without fear of being overheard by those far below.
