Famint

The ice floor holds shattered world pieces drifting apart

The land lies under one forest so old that its floor is buried in layers of fallen trunks. About 319,381 people remain from a population ten times larger and whole cities stand empty.

A drone meets any arrival carrying a weapon at the gate on sector 7 before trade talks begin. The greeting always opens with these two sentences: "There is no violence in the Dimensional Station. Violent offenders will be removed."

Dimension
INFINITENo edge has ever been reached.
Space
Ice that never melts, cut through with caverns and running meltwater.
Gate Sector
7The Dimensional Station.
The land of Famint
01

The Gate

"A line about trade follows, different every time."

from Manual for Gate Arrival, by Vasigri

The world's gate opens on Dimensional Station sector 7. Passage costs ten credits a head and a thousand a hull. Cargo goes free.

Quarantine
A person arrives through the gate and stays in quarantine for 35 days.
02

The Land

"The ice floor remains solid though the fragments separate."

from The Drift of Salt and Steam, by Suvaufint

Rain comes in one season-long flood and then not at all for the rest of the year. The night sky burns with moving light bright enough to read by.

Machines
Machines run here only when someone with an Ability Set is tending them.
03

The Economy

"Others want a fibre grown here that is stronger than steel wire."

from Song of the Broken Floor, by Pimaent

Steam drives mills, ships and a few railways. Fuel is the constant worry.

Currency
Salt is currency as well as trade goods. Salt pans are guarded by law.
