Dociach

A world of solid rock and returning things

The dimension stretches infinitely without a known edge. Solid rock fills the space around living hollows and tunnels.

An arrival through the gate sees a swarm of 1,106 small moons close enough to cross between them.

Dimension
INFINITENo edge has ever been reached.
Population
About 7,256 people live here within a few days of each other.
Metal
Bronze serves as the metal of power while tin holds more value than gold.
Rulers
The trade guilds rule jointly and each runs its own courts without overlap.
Export
Soldiers serve as the primary export for companies raised here.
The land of Dociach
01

The Shape

"The seam is tight: gates open slowly and at a cost and few things fall through."

from Annals of the Failing Seam, by Dritui

Life keeps to the hollows and tunnels in it. Things thrown away return within a year, washed up or dug up nearby.

Fabric
The space is filled with solid rock.
Moons
It holds a swarm of 1,106 small moons, close enough to cross between.
Return
Things thrown away come back within a year, washed up or dug up somewhere nearby.
Warning
Old structures fall without warning and people still live in them while new ones crumble into dust before fresh ones take their shape.
02

How It Works

"Tin is worth more than gold."

from Primer on Tin Scarcity, by Nofluich

Ambient energy remains barren so ability sets run only on carried reserves. Time passes at the same rate as the Dimensional Station.

Power
Ambient power is barren: Ability Sets draw nothing from the world and run only on what their users carry.
Physics
Only machines built under this world's own physics run here; imported machines stall until rebuilt.
03

The Gate

"There is no violence in the Dimensional Station. Violent offenders will be removed."

from Song of the Hill Beast, by Floslilg

This world's gate opens on Dimensional Station sector 6. The opening stands wide enough for a ship to fly into it directly.

Cost
Passage costs ten credits a head and a thousand a hull. Cargo goes free.
Protocol
A drone meets any arrival carrying a weapon. The greeting always opens with these two sentences: "There is no violence in the Dimensional Station.
04

Who Holds It

The trade guilds hold the land by treaty since rival powers share the gate at Slironn under a fragile pact that no one keeps long.

Agreement
Rival powers share the gate under an old agreement neither trusts.
Economy
Soldiers are the export: companies are raised here and hired out.
Culture
Performers from here are hired across many worlds for their music.
05

Statutes

A soldier must return his full pay to the company or face exile if he refuses to leave after a contract ends on Dociach.

Tool
No one may throw away a tool made of bronze because discarded items return within a year and break new ones when they wash up nearby.
Structure
Anyone caught hiding inside an ancient structure that fell without warning must flee immediately or die from the collapsing walls around them.

Peoples

  1. One of the Niotuinn
    01

    Niotuinn

    Glass-bodied obsidian faceted folk
    Alignment
They stand lawful neutral while ignoring structural warnings.
    Economy
They craft power tools from scarce bronze until metal fails and tin prices soar.
    Governance
Trade guilds rule while courts handle their own cases.
    People
They value clarity over comfort since their faceted limbs reflect light but they never see the dark inside hollow tunnels.
    Looks
They are mineral and glass-bodied with faceted limbs and a glowing core; they wear bronze-gloved gauntlets and carry heavy hammers for striking tools.
  2. One of the Cleaco
    02

    Cleaco

    Saurian, turtle-like
    Alignment
Selfish Niotuinn guard ruins and flee falling walls.
    Economy
Performers from Diofiodia sell songs that travel well across the swarm of 1,106 small moons.
    Governance
The trade guilds rule together while courts judge privately.
    People
Their banded scales hide heat inside a domed shell while they walk slowly on four legs and never speak above a hiss.
    Looks
Banded red and grey scales set them apart: saurian and turtle-like, dressed in leather tunics and carrying bronze tuning forks.
  3. One of the Nideafea
    03

    Nideafea

    Towering blue-grey four-eyed digitigrades
    Alignment
Benevolent builders raise walls as resources fade.
    Economy
They train soldiers in Sluitia who fight abroad, then return with station-minted credits.
    Governance
Trade guilds rule while courts stay separate.
    People
Their four eyes watch everything in a world where things thrown away come back within a year washed up or dug up somewhere nearby.
    Looks
Most are towering with blue-grey skin and four eyes in leather trousers, with a bronze spear slung at the side.
  4. One of the Neaslalg
    04

    Neaslalg

    Cephalopod, nautilus-like
    Alignment
They stay neutral in hollows while guarding sector 6 gates.
    Economy
They harvest barren ambient power so ability sets run only on carried items inside shells.
    Governance
Trade guilds rule; courts treat Neaslalg apart.
    People
Their pale translucent skin glows softly while eight tentacles coil around tools made of bronze that hold more value than gold.
    Looks
They float with pale translucent skin, a coiled shell on their back, eight tentacles dangling from wide heads while wearing dark waterproof suits.
