A Ring of Land Orbiting a Bright Core

The world presents a ring of solid land orbiting a bright core inside an infinite space filled with rock. About 324,506 people live mostly underground while surface dwellers avoid the drifting debris fields caused by the slow pull.

Great works stand everywhere though nobody knows who built them or when they were constructed. The ground tilts slightly to resist the constant drift of loose objects, forcing all structures to face this one-way pull.

Shape and Pull

The world presents a ring of land orbiting a bright core while loose objects drift slowly one way.

from Account Book of the Drift, by Sleabrich

The space is filled with solid rock and life keeps to the hollows and tunnels in it. Structures face this constant pull because the ground itself tilts to resist the slow drift.

The Core
A bright core illuminates the inner rock while the outer hollows remain dimly lit by ambient power.
The Pull
Everything loose drifts one way, slowly.
02

How It Works

Water circulates through tunnels carved into the solid rock medium, filtered from ancient salvage systems repaired past their original design. Waste goes into deep shafts drilled into the rock floor, sealed to prevent contamination of the few remaining surface pockets.

Power
Ambient power is steady: Ability Sets are common and the world feeds them.
Machines
Machines run here at a fraction of their speed and nobody has found why.
Food
Food is grown in underground hollows using recycled air and water salvaged from older machinery.
03

Who Holds It

A small scavenger lives everywhere people live and cannot be got rid of.

from Manifesto of the Stone, by Fuigluill

The Fogliadan merchant guild controls the land near the gate because they guard the seam entrance on Niaclui. The Diglisli waste collectors control the rest by sorting salvage in Tislird while keeping the tunnels clear for traffic.

Ruling Body
Those who pass the examinations rule, whatever their birth. The ruling body has split into two factions and each side calls the other illegal today.
Northern Guard
The Council of Exams splits into the Northern Guard and Southern Trade League, each accusing the other of treason today.

Peoples

  1. One of the Fogliadan
    01

    Fogliadan

Snake-bodied with two arms and a long tail wrapped in bronze scales
    Alignment
Lawful neutral traders prize contracts to keep commerce flowing.
    Economy
They earn wealth hauling salvage goods across the wide ring on boats gliding over underground pools.
    Governance
Eldest merchants set policy while younger handle routes.
    People
They speak in hissing clicks and value silence above noise because loud sounds disturb their sensitive slit-pupil eyes easily.
    Looks
Bronze scales cover snake-bodied forms marked by hooded heads under simple tunics, with a heavy salvage coil in hand.
  2. One of the Diglisli
    02

    Diglisli

    Hinged-shell molluscan folk
    Alignment
Chaotic neutral scavengers take needs without asking rulers.
    Economy
They earn income cleaning waste shafts and selling filters to Tislird cities.
    Governance
Shell holders set rules by size in deep tunnels.
    People
They move slowly but never sleep, gathering odd items from debris fields while avoiding surface dwellers who think them pests.
    Looks
Molluscan shells with pearl interiors set them apart: snail-like and compact, a hinged shell wrapped in grey rags and carrying waste filters.
  3. One of the Fadruitui
    03

    Fadruitui

Saurian turtle-like build with sand-coloured scales covering a thick domed shell and a toothed snout for eating hard food.
    Alignment
Lawful guards block tunnels from drifting debris.
    Economy
They earn steady pay repairing broken machinery parts and teaching younger workers fixing ancient salvage tools.
    Governance
The saurian with the thickest shell leads the squad.
    People
They value stability above speed, often taking hours to cross a wide tunnel to ensure no loose rock falls on anyone.
    Looks
Their sand-coloured hides blend perfectly with the dusty walls of Sicobro, wearing heavy aprons made from patched leather scraps.
  4. One of the Fliasea
    04

    Fliasea

    Glossy green newt folk
    Alignment
Chaotic evil raiders steal food nightly, believing hunger justifies acts.
    Economy
Fliasea pilfer trader supplies in damp hollows near the outer rock edge.
    Governance
The largest Fliasea newt rules because strength sets rank underground.
    People
They live mostly near water sources and speak in low gurgles that sound like bubbling water from deep underground cisterns.
    Looks
Most are amphibious and newt-like with glossy green skin and a wide mouth in damp-worn rubber boots, with a heavy iron net slung at the side.

The Way Out

A single power holds the gate on Niaclui and decides strictly who passes through its threshold. To leave one must present a permit issued by the ruling council standing at the western edge of Seara.

Gate Location
The Dimensional Station sector 1 hosts the exit where a single power holds the threshold and decides who passes through.
Exit Belief
Everyone else believes the exit leads only to distant stars or perhaps another hollow tunnel system.
